Ashley Mears on Bottle Service, Elites, Beauty, and Inequality*

This week, we speak with Boston University‘s Ashley Mears, the current chair of the American Sociological Association’s Section on Consumers and Consumption.  She is also author of Pricing Beauty: The Making of a Fashion Model (University of California Press).  We talk about her upcoming book on bottle service at clubs catering to young elites.  We also discuss controversies surrounding Geroge Ciccariello-Maher and the recent retraction at Third World Quarterly, the ethics of citing unethical research, and more Harvey Weinstein.
